PARADIGM SERIES
We have discussed SI as a manipulation of the myofascial system however this is not a random act. When we look at the body in all 3 planes of motion, we are identifying the relationships between the front and back, left side and right side, and rotationally. We ask the question of how one area impacts another area. Once we have identified where these changes in posture or movement have occurred relative to gravity, it is time to develop a strategy to better organize the body. This process is developed as a “series”. A “series” is a recipe or plan that works to reorganize the myofascial system in a number of sessions.
“Form and function are a unity, two sides of one coin. In order to enhance function, appropriate form must exist or be created.” - Dr. Ida Rolf

The 3 series is specific to balancing the superficial myofascia in 3 sessions namely the front, back, and sides of the body. This series is essential in opening the “sleeve” of the body in order to make way for deeper work. The 12 series is a more comprehensive series of sessions that address both superficial and deep layers of myofascia where deeper postural and movement dysfunctions occur. It is important to note that not all sessions are the same. The recipe promotes a specific theme for each session to re-organize the body.

Not all clients require a series therefore “Headline” sessions may be more appropriate. In a headline session, the practitioner observes a main “Theme” or area that may require specific work in order to adjust a key space in the body. The “Headline” session may also serve as an initial session for clients who are unfamiliar with SI work. This allows the client to have a positive experience with SI work and for the practitioner to provide a recommendation for future sessions if needed.
